Franchise Direct's Lillie Burroughs speaks to Bill Holohan of Holohan Solicitors.
Bill recommends that potential franchisees investigate their local market to ensure that their franchise will have a market for the product or service you will be providing.
Bill also recommends contacting a solicitor after deciding on which franchise you want to invest in. Bill goes through all the stages of signing up for a franchise opportunity and the various documents that new franchisees are asked to sign. New franchisees shouldn't sign any legally binding documents without first making sure that they are entirely au fait with all the terms and conditions involved in operating the franchise and Bill gives some examples about difficulties which can be experienced between a franchisee and a franchisor.
Bill also explains what is involved with taking a master franchise opportunity and also provides a list of do's and don't's for potential franchisees researching franchise opportunities.
